FAQs

FAQs

Here are answers to the most common questions about us and our concierge model of care.

  • How much is the annual membership fee?

An individual annual membership fee is $5,000 with a 10% discount for additional family members.  Payment will be charged on the date of the first visit with renewals charged annually on that date.

  • What does the membership fee include?

Your membership fee will cover all office visits and in-house lab tests, so there are no additional out-of-pocket or co-pay charges for services we provide.   Additionally, your fee will include an annual physical with standard lab work along with the development of an annual healthcare plan tailored to your specific goals and aligned to your current health conditions and wellness objectives.  You can schedule as many appointments as necessary to help reach your goals.  Lastly, your membership provides for a comprehensive assessment of future health risks as well as the identification and implementation of preventive health measures designed to help stave off health challenges later in life.

  • I’m healthy, so is it worth the cost?

One of the greatest benefits of AIM’s concierge model is that our team has more time to devote to wellness education, implementing preventive care measures, and monitoring your personalized health manage plan.  As such, research has shown that this type of focus and education greatly increases early detection and management of health issues, potentially reducing long-term healthcare costs and improving quality of life for patients.  This becomes increasingly important as patients enter and navigate through middle age during which many potentially avoidable chronic conditions start becoming more prevalent.

  • Do I still need private health insurance or Medicare?

Yes.  As a membership-based practice, we do not accept Medicare or private health insurance. However, some form of commercial or government health insurance will still be required for most medications and any medical services you receive outside of our clinic.

  • Should I still enroll in my HSA/FSA program?

If you find HSA/FSA programs helpful in managing your healthcare expenses, you should consider continuing to use them. Just know that some HSA/FSA providers may not allow funds from these programs to be used to pay for the AIM annual membership fee.    However, you may still use those funds for qualified medical expenses ordered by your AIM physician including medications and other clinical services not covered by the membership fee such as radiographs, non-routine lab work, and other out-of-office therapies.  Additionally, if you have medical expenses related to hospitalization or to conditions not treated by your AIM physician, you can still use HSA/FSA funds for such purposes.  Our team can help you determine what expenses are likely covered by your HSA/FSA program.

  • Do I get to pick my physician?

Yes.  All AIM physicians are capable and qualified to deliver our primary care services consistent with our values-driven principles and relationship-centered model of care.  However, we appreciate that a patient may prefer a specific physician based on any number of factors including their areas of specialization.   If you are unsure or do not have a physician preference, our staff will conduct a brief interview with you to help determine which doctor is the best match.   Please keep in mind that since our concierge model works by maintaining a low doctor-to-patient ratio, your preferred physician may not be able to take on new patients at the time of your inquiry.  If that is the case, we can add you to a wait list until an opening becomes available or direct you to one of our other expert physicians who matches your needs.

  • Can I meet my preferred physician before becoming a member?

Yes.  Your preferred physician will schedule a virtual “meet and greet” with you prior to becoming a member.  You are under no obligation to join after this meeting.

  • What about my medications?

As part of your onboarding, our team will review your current medications and work with you and your insurance company to avoid gaps in accessing them from your pharmacy.   Your AIM physician will take over prescribing responsibilities for medications that treat health conditions managed by your prior primary care physician.  Medications prescribed by any specialists you see will continue to be managed by their office. And of course, AIM will be a persistent advocate for any insurance-required prior authorizations for any necessary medications or procedures you may need.

  • How do I get lab work or other ordered services that you don’t do in-house?

Just like a traditional primary care practice, your physician may order diagnostic tests, radiographs, lab work, or other services that will need to be completed outside our clinic.  We’ll help you access providers that are covered by your insurance.  Results will be sent to our office electronically and you will be able to view them through our patient portal.

  • How do referrals to other physicians and specialists work?

AIM physicians have access to a broad network of referable clinicians across all therapeutic areas for specialized treatment and care.  We’ll work closely with you to identify those providers who are covered by your insurance and are most likely to match your needs and expectations.  Importantly, we will frequently communicate and coordinate efforts with these specialists to ensure a consistent standard of care between both offices.

  • How can you do same/next day appointments?

As a concierge medicine practice, we maintain a much smaller doctor-to-patient ratio than a traditional primary care office.  This affords us much greater flexibility for managing physician workload and allows us to accommodate same or next day requests.  In the rare event that your physician is unavailable to see you within a day or two of your request, we can set up an appointment with one of our other highly qualified physicians on staff.   Also keep in mind that we offer the flexibility of telehealth appointments as an option for those visits that do not require a physical examination.

  • Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes.  You can schedule a telehealth appointment directly through the AIM patient portal or by calling our office.  Keep in mind that some types of appointments may not be suitable or feasible via telehealth, such as those that require a physical examination.  Telehealth is best suited for “check-ins” or follow-ups to prior appointments, for common conditions that can be diagnosed with at-home tests such as COVID or that may be seasonally-related such as flu or allergies, or when the focus is related to mental health concerns.

  • What happens if my physician isn’t available on the day that I need them?

In the rare event that your physician is unavailable to see you within a day or two of your request, we can set up an appointment with one of our other highly qualified physicians on staff.

  • What do you mean by personalized care?

Personalized care is one of the best benefits of the concierge model.  During your onboarding, you and your doctor will develop an individualized care plan based on the health and wellness goals you would like to accomplish.  These goals could be related to such things as changes in lifestyle behaviors, management of chronic health conditions, disease and injury prevention, or increased mindfulness and mental health awareness.  Once your goals are determined, you and your doctor will identify and implement strategies for achieving them.  Through regular check-ins and motivational communication, we’ll be a supportive partner as together we monitor your progress and adjust your strategies as needed.  Most importantly, we’ll be there to help celebrate your achievements and look toward new goals to accomplish.

  • How will I view my health records, schedule appointments, and communicate with my doctor?

After becoming a member, we will give you access to our HIPAA compliant patient portal which you can access from your home computer or mobile device.  Once in the portal, you will be able to view appointment notes, review your health records (including test and lab results), schedule in-person or telehealth appointments, and communicate with your physician.  You are also welcome to call our office directly to schedule appointments, ask questions, or leave a message for your physician.

  • Will you have access to my prior medical history from other healthcare providers?

Yes.  As part of your onboarding process, we’ll review your medical history to include current and prior healthcare providers.  At that time, we’ll ask you to sign the necessary paperwork that will authorize those providers to release your health records to our office.  Transfer of that information will happen electronically and will automatically integrate into our electronic health records (EHR) system.
